The Honey Producers of South Dakota would like to welcome you to their little home on the web!
Did you know, South Dakota is home to more than 185 producers across the state. Approximately 100 of those maintain their bees on a commercial scale. South Dakota was the number two honey producer in the United States in 2017, ranking second to North Dakota. South Dakota apiaries produced 14.53 million pounds of honey. A new ordinance is working its way through the Sioux Falls City Council which would allow citizens to keep bees within the city limits if passed.
SD Honey anticipates that the ordinance will pass. In which case, any citizen wanting to keep bees within the city limits will be required to complete a Master Beekeeper Class. We’ll be offering a class February 29 and March 1, 2020 at the Mary Jo Wegner Arboretum in Sioux Falls. You may register for the course by clicking on the Master Beekeeper Class link above.
